Principal's
Message
Welcome to Vincent Massey
Public School. As you browse our website
you will discover what makes us special -
our students, our staff, our parents and
community members - our people.
Our students come from over
50 countries around the world. In a visit by Prime Minister Paul Martin, he
commended our students for living every
day the vision of a world at peace. When
the Premier Dalton McGuinty visited, he
commented on the warm, caring environment
of the school. Our students strive to be
respectful and responsible citizens as
they learn and develop to their full
potential. Our students are regularly
commended for their behaviour on field
trips in the community and do extremely
well in sports and academic activities
within the Board, Eastern Ontario and
provincially.
Our staff are extremely dedicated and are all seasoned veterans. I
joined VM in January and last year we welcomed our new
Vice-Principal, Jocelyn Fagan. The office administrator Zeynep Gunesberk, has been with us for
12 years and is known not only for her competence but even more for her
ability to welcome and remember each and every student and parent as they
pass through the office. Her assistant, Bernadette O'Kurley is extremely
competent and her constant smile and can-do attitude add to the warmth and
fun of the office.
Our teachers, with some help from the students have won the prestigious
National Quality Institute's Award of Excellence. They are dedicated not only to student learning
but also to their own continuous development and improvement. They regularly
attend professional development sessions on their own time and our monthly
staff meetings are dedicated almost completely to professional development.
Our Division Leaders, Mr. Marcus (Intermediate), Mrs. Bornais (Junior), and
Mrs. Curtis (Primary), lead their teams in initiatives to maximize student
learning and fun. Our "Refuse to Lose" motto is applied to each and every
student with unsurpassed passion and professionalism.
Our care staff, Jocelyn Reid, Don Stephens, and Karen Bray, are
exemplary. Although maintaining quite an old building, operating on the most
basic of resources, they regularly have the building sparkling, safe and
welcoming for all. This is under the guidance of
our Chief Custodian Pierre Labrie.
Our parents are very supportive and as involved as they can be in
this busy world. Our School Council has a strategic action plan which meshes
with the school's overall plans and we work together very well to accomplish goals
for the good of our students.
We have a variety of partnerships with our community members and
we have recently opened a Child Care program to enhance services for our students
and their families.
We hope you take time to read about our programs, our accomplishments and our plans.
